Cane basket weaving is the process by which unspun vegetable fibres are woven into baskets. The earliest evidence of woven baskets dates back to 12,000 years ago. Not only are they ideal for home storage, but they can also be used in shop displays, or as a picnic basket.
Basket weaving makes use of stakes, spokes and weavers. In India cane basket weaving is concentrated in the Northeast states of Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur and Assam.

Although cane items are long lasting and tensile, proper care and maintenance can ensure a longer life period for these types of baskets/trays. Avoid direct heat and sunlight.
Warm soapy water: It is wise to clean cane items with warm soapy water and rinse it with water. Wipe away excessive water with a soft cloth. Keep it to dry for 24 hours before using it again. Use a soft brush to remove excessive dirt or mould.
